So having been with NM for 2 years, (an MTN package) I decided to just go straight to Vodacom cutting out the middle man. (I've been having trouble with MTN) I went to cancel my contract (they just phoned to ask if I wanted to upgrade ie sign on for another 24 months) and I said no. When I went to cancel and organise the transfer of my number, they said it would take 3 months to do this. Does anyone know if this is normal? I thought number portability was supposed to make it easier for us to migrate.

With Nashua you have to give them 3 months notice priod irregardless of whether your contract has expired or not!!! And yes, we pretty much agree that it's a rip off!!

Damn it sucks when you dont read the fine print ... all you can think of is getting your paws on your new phone ....

Found that out by accident when I tried to get another problem sorted. They told me to contact their service center, which I did...

Funny thing is, whenever I've had a problem before, their help desk is on the ball (problem sorted ASAP). When I mail to give notice, not a peep (I've kept the reference numbers :)).

My contract is up in 6 weeks, so I'm just waiting for the BS to start...

Ya it does, but not in this case: All Nashua Hard Copy contracts do not mention anything about the notice period (I have reviewed 2005/6/7 contracts), they have a clause that says "... by signing this contract you agree to abide by Nashua's terms and conditions which can be accessed on the net www.nashuamobile.com..." My question is, what about those who do not have access to the net? A contract mus be easily accessible to the client right? So do u call this easy access? Dont think so. Therefore, most potential subscribers are likely not to go all the way to the net just for the Terms and Conditions. After all, they are given this 4-6 page document which actually supposed to HAVE ALL THE T&Cs!!!

They are just getting away with murder...:D:D

Unfortunately I learned the hard way!! I only found out about this during the last month of my contract.....
Its just too painfull to talk about it:mad::mad:

So they actually selling 27 month contracts? Or is it only when porting?

NO!! A subscriber must give notice to (Port/Discontue the contract) three months (21st months) before his/her contract expires!

In that case, you will be able to port (free) or as we know it lose your number when your contract expires! If you ask me, these are just under hand tactics to mislead us:D

hellopeter.com.....tell them what you think about them.

BUt I can get a vodacom contract now and apply for my number to port, so that when the 3 months run out at Nashua, I still have my number. Is that right?

He*l NO!!! Bear in mind that when you port, you do not change your number!! So you simply cant do that. Just wait till your notice period is up. I personaly wouldn't encourage you to make a Network port. Rather make a SP port (just switch from Nashua to MTNSP). Having an MTN number (or any other network) but using the services of a different network sounds complicated!!! I think thats too much hassle for you...

On what grounds? The T&Cs may be not easily accesible but they are there!!! Believe me you, I even considered my lawyer but I realised that I have no leg to stand on. Nashua can argue that it is the subscriber's negligence not to read the T&Cs (even though we one have to dig them up).

On the contrary, the subscriber may also argue that Nashua's T&Cs are not easily accesible. Nashua's negligence to provide them to the potential subscribers when they apply for the contract may be a mitigating factor..

Any lawyers here to disect this???

(These are just my opinions)

hahaaaa .... nevermind the FINE print .. you gotta FIND the Print first ..

I also discovered the 3 month screw you clause with Nashua Mobile when giving notice in November last year when my contract ended. I was billed up to February despite not making a single call during Jan and Feb.

Nahua Mobile's slow service, long queues and pathetic upgrade offers are some of the reasons that make the decision to leave them so easy.

Anyone here work for Nashua Mobile? How is it as a company to work for?
