Have just finished porting my number to Virgin amid a few problems. So, on midnight 15 January 2010 my phone MTN (nashua) suddenly stops working. Very inconvenient. A few weeks before Virgin had attempted to port before my contract end and I got an SMS from Nashua threatining to bill me 4300k for early termination. Same figure they quoted me last year only this time, my contract was ending late January 2010 and the port attempt was in December of 2009.
Moving on, as of the 16 my number was with Virgin for some reason dispite requesting for the port to be on the 29th of Jan one day after my contract end as per MTN and Nashua helpdesks respectively. These instructions to port I had given to Virgin. So, what is the surprise ... well, normally when you are about to loose a customer who spends over a K a month on their contract, I would want to know why they are porting, what I can do to keep them etc. Even ABSA made a bid to remove some of my charges so I would keep my credit card account open. I respect them for that. Maybe, Nashua has more business than it can handle and one less does not matter.
Anyway, I got an upgrade time email from Nashua today. I do not know whether to laugh or cry. Normally by September I will have had someone send me the latest phone list on the market and a new phone by December. Where has all that enthusiasim gone. I guess in the end, I am happy to be on the cheapest network in the country and if the service is bad, no anger, its cheap. My data lines can be on 24/7 now also, 60c per meg I can handle, do not want to deal with a separate bundle deal maths. Need a contract as easy to use as my phone and now I have one.
