Naspers company attacks Google over international tax practises

No we don't. Take this from somebody that has had to interview hundreds of developers. We have a severe lack of good devs in SA.

From someone who also hires devs and has found quality devs, we have good devs. Theyre just not cheap. Obviously I didnt interview "hundreds of people". I put one or two adverts up, and found people who could do the job of developing an ISPs back end well. The people I hired are high quality (can develop across many platforms (which is what I need))... they just are not cheap.

Not sure why you struggled so much when I didnt.

Actually price is not the problem. Having to hire devs from SF, you end up having to pay similar amounts to what they would earn there. There are just very few good devs available, and those that are you end up fighting over with Amazon

I suspect this is the start of trying to get legislation in place, hence looking at how Italy and France have tackled the problem

This is in regard with Google advertising within Italy and France.

In that country, the tax forces Italian companies to buy online advertising from locally registered companies instead of units based in tax havens such as Ireland and Bermuda.

In France they will penalise Google dealing with the French when not within tax compliance, however the onus will come back to the French should they circumvent their dealings with Google.

This is what they want in SA, to have "Foreign Country" entities set up shop in SA, should they not comply then their digital services should be unavailable. Interesting to see this with Vodacom / Google relations (Woza Online).

Actually, Naspers is correct. And once they loopholes are closed, they will get what they want.
Guess it will be you crying all you want (Although I am still not sure why you want Google to exploit tax loopholes to get out of paying their tax)

it isn't a case of there being no good devs in SA

what we lack is certain industry infrastructure - there is another thread here somewhere from a recruitment person - that makes SA a hub of quality development at competitive pricing
basically as a country we lack a comparative advantage in software development and there are many potential advantages that simply aren't nurtured (the big one for me is that we can offer quality of life for "cheaper" than many other countries)

The Italian system seems to be better than the French system. Not sure why we are going that route
