Please won't someone write a tut on how to set up NAT / PAT on the Telkom POTS Router.

I would like to expose a web/ftp server onto the WAN.

Hey ItalicBold... Don't really see you on IRC anymore, you fader! [;)] We miss you [:(]

Anyway, regarding your question, we used to run a type of mail spooling that required connections from a certain mail server to our adsl ip on port 25 (standard smtp). To do this, I configure the PAT settings as follows:

Protocol: TCP
Interface: ATM1
Service Name: SMTP (Give your service a name, eg. Web)
Port Number: 25 (This is the EXTERNAL port number to open up for connections. HTTP runs on 80 by default)
Server IP Address: 192.168.10.2 (This is the IP address of you computer on your INTERNAL network. You'll have to assign an IP address to the machine, as you can't specify DHCP stuff here I guess)
Server Port Number: 25 (This is the port of the actual service running on your machine)

Don't forget to Save and Restart the router for changes to come into effect. Lemme know if you don't come right.

If you are going to do anything complex rather dont use the built in stuff.

Check out my post on this modem here

As I have posted elsewhere you should set this up as a PPPoE device. In that case your machine gets a ip when it "dials up". If you have more complex needs, set it up on a linux machine as a PPP device and use iptables to manage your connections.

Cheers.

Not everyone has the luxury, resources and/or know-how in order to set up that kind of solution. In a perfect world, if you know what you're doing, you really wouldn't be reading this thread in the first place [;)]

Just one more note regarding the setup instructions above, you can't actually test whether the settings are working above from your internal network. Seems the router doesn't allow you to route back into your internal network. So you'll just have to ask a friend to test it out for you.

For what it's worth, the PAT instructions Vie set out worked fine in my test.[:D]

I'm using the "Marconi" as a router currently, behind a Linux firewall and besides the lockup which the LCP IP change causes it's working fine.
It's also provided me with a double line of defense due to the NAT. For me, that extra defense is worth it.

ItalicBold - if you're still out there, please will you send me the firmware files for Telkom's "marconi" router.

Thanks
