Near field communication could transform mobile

NFC is quite old allready I can remember it being tested in china way back in 2006 , it wasnt widely adopteb back then and I probably think it wont be internationally eather , security poses a problem with it, so if some one steels your cell phone there free to do micro transactions or clone the NFC signal...

I vote we skip NFC and go directly with inplanted RF-ID chips under our skin :D,its far more convenient but we have to convince every one its not the mark of the devil...
 
Interesting!!

There could very well be difficuties with security, but its a forward thinking idea, and that usually leads to innovation. And the idea is not THAT old???

Having said that about security, I can switch of the NFC device but how do I control the implant? LOL

So yes I agree there will have to be more water running into the sea, some initial devices, that can start breaking the ground, followed by more development will follow.... and so on and like cell phones themselves over the past 20 or so years something will emerge that will be sought after by all
 
The last that I read was that, according to Apple, they will not be implementing NFC in the iPhone5 due to the lack of a standard.

I like the concept, Would like to see the security behind it though.
 
Wasn't all this promised when bluetooth was designed. Sounds like the same concept, just better technology.

time will tell if it catches on.
 
err, surely a simple PIN could be implemented with NFC on payment terminals? Tap your phone, enter a PIN and there we go... Not so different to an ATM card wrt security....
 
Near field communication sounds like a must have, could anyone elaborate on the security concerns and possible solutions that china reported please. NFC would revolutionize the people transport industry in south africa.

If you just have to just swipe it and payment is made I wont see it working at all, but I can see this tech working fine if you have to say move it past a reader and then have to enter a pin on the retailer's reader, something like what would happen if you swipe your debit card and enter pin for payment. In that way eliminating the need to carry a card with you.
 
I, for one, welcome our new NFC-enabled overlords...
 
not getting loaded onto ios is a bit of a stuff up.
maybe google can help a bit... they seem to be pretty happy to create open standards.

There is NFC devices that can connect to current iPhone's See http://www.icarte.ca/

It is more than just a mobile wallet, that is just one of the uses, think of it as RFID tags on steroids as they find new uses for it. I do believe that Apple is just waiting for the people to fight out the standards 1st so it will probably show up in iPhone 5 next year.
