Need a Hdd utility/checker/tester??

are there any utilities or apps that will allow me to check if the drive is good or is not failing
its a 2,5" drive by the way

Should work but you can also have a look on Bart PE tools. There is a lot of tools.

You want access to the drive's S.M.A.R.T data; *obviously* you want to check if anything has been reported as failing, but also take a long, hard look at the number of hours the drive has run and see if that matches with what your prospective seller has been advertising...

i cant seem to run any tests on this hdd using seatools and it doesnt show in diskcheckup??
its a 2,5" usb external drive

Well, if you're running Windows, an easy tool to use would be HDTune. The free version will do the job just fine. Allows you to check SMART data and check the drive for bad sectors.

SMART data isn't always that useful. If you want to scan the drive sector by sector and get a full report of the drive you can use MHDD.

That with SMART data should give you a good idea of the drive's status.
