Need a New Laptop

Ya I also have an HP 530, but don't have it with me (oh the shame!) and hence I don't have the model number, but it's the model that comes wit a T2050. As I understand, the newer models are T2300e upwards. What this means for the consumer is that if you need Virtualization technology, you should first make sure the processor in your particular notebook supports it (T2050 and T2300e do NOT, can't vouch for others).

Oh, by the way, I'm over the moon with my machine. VERY solid build quality for such an entry-level business machine. One issue is the small number of USB ports: 2.
But it runs everything I need: Vista(with excellent battery life: over 4 hours) XP(with reduced battery life, but still almost 4hours) and Debian 4.0. On XP, it runs my SPICE simulations in almost no time and ALL my hardware works. Took a bit of searching, but it was obvious in the end

I can say that my HP 530 has not given me any issues. It IS a basic notebook, so you don't get all the frills (bluetooth, card reader, etc), but what you DO get is a solid notebook with a quality screen, decent business performance (onboard graphics) at a great price. A winner, in my books

W@P the machine in your link is exactly the same one that I have, only with 2GB RAM. For general business use I think this is more than sufficient. I'm able to run some computationally intensive applications (Matlab, OrCAD, Visual Studio, etc) without any problems.

Great machine in my opinion, especially for the money.

Cheers

Sounds good guys, some mofos robbed a family member in her flat on sunday night so no she is using my laptop while i am shopping around for her for a new one and i think i will go with the 530 with 2gb ram.

go for an apple or sony depending on ur budget!!

Budget? Sony? To get a Sony you can't have a budget. Have you seen the prices of the accessories and upgrades? Don't touch the Sonys unless you HAVE to have the name.

Apple is not a bad idea tho. Provided you don't need to run a lot of software. I love my little iBook but I have to have a PC for my Pastel AutoCAD, etc. I know you can run Parallels but I have had some issues getting stuff installed. Also had LOADS of issues with Leopard and older peripherals. You just can't win really!

Good luck with the decision making. ;)

Ahh this is why I love these forums - so much help :) thanks to all..

Im kinda leaning towards the HP530 aswell... Ill keep looking though just incase something pops up =)
