I have just completed a full year with the HTC Touch Pro, and hated every day of it. The phone was well loaded with features, but I ended up being frustrated with it as making and answering calls were difficult, and the phone struggled with the Blackberry Connect software, making it freeze up every now and then.
I have pulled my old N95 8Gb out of the cupboard, and have been using it for the last week. It felt like heaven just to be able to make calls without a hassle. I loaded the Nokia Messaging application on the phone, and the push mail works really well, unlike the Blackberry connect which sometimes delayed delivery of mail with an hour or more. Another nice thing about Nokia Messaging is that one can configure when to sync/push mails by day and time, so one can set it to stop over weekends, and only re-sync on Monday morning. Oh yes, and the Nokia pairs perfectly with my Merc's bluetooth, whereas the Windows 6 Mobile bluetooth was incompatible. The phone is however old, has been in for repairs, and looks a bit tacky.
So, I think I have learnt a lesson here, which is that I should stick with a Nokia. I have always had Nokia phones (with the exception of the HTC) and they never gave me troubles, and I seem to favour the user interface over Windows Mobile. My dilemma is, I don't know which Nokia to choose. I am going over to Asia in December and want to buy the phone (it is less than 50% of the purchase price in SA, from a Nokia store!).
Here is what I consider important when choosing a phone.
1. Making and receiving calls with minimal keystrokes.
2. Sending & receiving emails (push mail via GMail & IMAP for work mails)
3. Synchronising my calendar and appointments with Outlook.
4. Connecting to bluetooth carkit and using remote SIM.
5. Alarm clock to wake up in the mornings.
I have used Skype on my phones before (Skype on Windows Mobile and Fring on the Nokia) so it would be nice but not a necessity, as I found that 3G/HSDPA always connected really eats away at battery reserves. I rarely surf on the phone (the screens are too small) and I have satnav in both cars, so a GPS is not important. I dont think I have ever used the camera on any of my phones.
So, what recommendations can you guys make based on my preferences?
I appreciate the responses, and apologise for the long-winded post
