My wife got me one for my birthday on recommendation from a friend, I have just jerry rigged it to an old Manfrotto tripod for now to get it up and running.

I bought a WS-2000 for a famliy member's birthday, and decided to save on courier fees so I doubled up the order and got one for myself too. Now just need to get there to fetch and install it in my yard...

That must have cost a small fortune but I do love my smart toys, I plan on getting HA up and running again in our new house and my WS integrated.

Every Android phone I own I install Weather and Clock Widget. An app with its own widget.

Not really, two WS-2000s, together with two soil moisture sensors (which were delivered separately) came to R13,663.29 via Amazon. I liked Ambient Weather's store, with a lot of options for extra sensors etc. but got very frustrated with the numerous bugs on it. Eventually I elected to just forgo the extras and use Amazon.

Also, you actually don't have to have one to benefit from the network, just go to https://ambientweather.net or download the Ambient Weather app for PC, and see the stations in your area (or all around the world). You can also generate a free API key using your login, which you can use today with IFTTT. There are other initiatives from PWS Weather and Weather Underground, but I haven't explored them yet.

Do you use the ambient weather observerip module? I feel like throwing that janky assed crap against a wall. I’m thinking of getting an ecowitt gw1100 rather to connect my ws-5000. It constantly goes into some weird looping trance and then doesn’t report to ambientweather.net.

Not at all, I tend to avoid devices that look suspiciously like sex toys :laugh:

The console that comes with the WS-2000 (and I believe the WS-5000 too) handles everything, bridging between the station itself, as well as any external sensors (915 MHz), and the Internet (2.4 GHz). Mine goes to ambientweather.net and WUnderground. Signal strength is excellent, both for lateral wifi comms and Internet.

So you don't use the TFT LED display console? Why not?

I didnt want the display console option, and went for the ipmodule bundle with the ws5000 to view info from anywhere. The weather station is great. The crappy observerip module traps itself in some kind of reset limbo if you don’t connect it directly wired to your router. It doesn’t like a switch apparently. It then constantly forgets to hide the setup AP, or rather selectively just resets it and stops reporting. Connecting wirelessly to my network used to work without a hitch until today when it started doing the same. The firmware is up to date and signal and batteries are good. It so frustrating.

Well that's pretty useless then. I'd suggest that you get a normal console (they are great for glancing at 2-3 times per day). Plus they forward everything with no issues whatsoever. I use dedicated 2.4 GHz SSIDs for all of my IOT stuff, and set them up as guest networks, and use network isolation, so that if a device gets compromised, it remains there, and it won't allow any lateral movement.
