Need a new WIFI router solution

So it says that you can do it now but I can't see where to actually set the login.
I'll play around with it but it means breaking the network so will have to di it "after hours".

It just means one less device on the battery backup.

Afrihost provided two boxes. The Fibre line connects into a white Raycor box, and then they provided a WiFi router (the DLink) that connects to the Raycor box via an ethernet cable. Does the Raycore box provide internet, or does it just convert the fibre signal into something the router can understand? Was never clear on that.
The wifi router provides the internet. The Raycor box just terminates the fibre and converts it to ethernet. You wont ever have to fiddle with that.

Looks like you can either use the D-link or swap it out (provided you have your login details)

The only plus of having the old router is that it has multiple ethernet ports, you may have other devices that you want connected via that physical ethernet port.
The Deco only has two ports, so that might be an issue for you.

You are already running a Mesh with those two devices, unless you very actively went and configured the second one as an AP with it's own SSID settings.
Noted, just "plugged & played" it, so more dumb luck than anything else. At least it works and it was a cheap solution!

Yeah erm these support OneMesh...so you've likely been running a Mesh network without even knowing it all along. It would default to that configuration unless you very specifically went out of your way to do it otherwise.

No, they're not meshing and for one OneMesh to work you need the onemesh range extender and at that point you can just as well go with the Deco's.

So I am not very clued up on how all these things work but provided I still use the Fibre router (first box) that Afrihost provided and my new router has a WAN port I should be able to pick any mesh router correct?
My setup:
ONT box (fibre box thing that the fibre optic cable goes into) -> WAN port of D-Link 825 -> Port 1 of Deco home station.
Port 2 of Deco home station -> ethernet cable - > Deco bedroom station.

Thanks. I may try this, but at the same time the DLink is so temperamental I am no longer confident its ethernet ports are even stable. I don't use wires in the house for anything other than my up stairs router so the 2 ports don't really worry me. Will see how it goes.

The switch on your d-link is hardware based, so it shouldn't be an issue.

Without running the wifi network, it is much more stable IMO. I only have the DNLA on it as an additional service.

Oh wow, that is idiotic I just went to read a bit further about it.

The fact you have them on two floors is probably why your hand over is pretty seamless or perceived as such anyway as you won’t really have cells overlapping so the client will roam more logically.

When it’s all on one floor especially or a wide area with multiple AP’s that overlap significantly it’s a disaster.

And if you do voice or video calls that handover is also pretty hardcore and a full disconnect/reconnect which doesn’t happen with a Mesh system.

Nevermind. Seems Afrihost definitely supports the Deco as a primary router:
I have just done this now.
You do have to reset your deco network for it to work well, but it makes all the difference.

Which ISP? I am about to buy the Deco and am with afrihost on Vuma and I don;t want to keep the old router going. Even logging in to it is becoming hard. Keeps dropping the admin page. Took 10 tries to make a minor change to my 5GHz network the other day.
Cool Ideas... They gave me all the info, just couldn't/wouldn't work.

hi,

I'm trying to configure an old D-Link DIR825 to be used as an AP on the other side of the house, but when it keeps giving me this error when I try to disable DHCP/change the IP address:

leaving the Host Name field blank or giving it some random name also results in the same error.

Any ideas? thanks
