Why? 2.0 and lower should be compatible with 1.0a slots.

2.1 which broke compatibility came out in 2009 so any gpu before that should work. I have a nvidia 7600 & 9600 stashed away in a box somewhere.
 
I have a few AGP cards.... no clue if they still work though.

They'll run at 1.0a speeds but I doubt the bus would be much of a bottleneck if any as the bus speeds are usually way higher than that of the GPU.

Don't confuse the clock speed with the bus speed.

Go for a Nvidia card. I am an AMD supporter but it's AMD that broke compatibility with power features that aren't available in 1.0. Actually it's the compatibility that isn't complete and guaranteed which is the problem so you might still run into some problems.
