Nee some info want to obtain second hand car. (Cheap)
Price range +/- R60K

Looking at some cars prices so 'high' and year model think at those given prices they were new at one stage.

1 Reliable car 2010 model onward
2 Service history
3) Low kilometers done. What is recommend kilometers done?
4) When are most cars cam belts done.
5) When do shocks need to be replaced
6) Engine mountings need to be replaced.
7) Accident free
8) What happens to accumulated Tolls (E-Toll comes to mind)
9) Fines outstanding
10) Do i need to get new number plates to avoid points 8-9.
11) How reliable are these street corner second hand vendors. JHB are full of them most other places aswell

Looking at the above points what do you recommend.

That is quite a lot of things you are looking at for a car in that price range. Willing to compromise a bit? I don't think you can even find a Fiesta or a Polo with "low kilometers done" from 2010 onward.

I have a 2009 Fiesta Titanium that will be up for grabs in a month’s time. 110k km I think is regarded as low kilometers? 11 000km/year

For the year, price and km's done you are looking at Tata's, Picantos or a Atos.

Not a lot of choices, either adjust parameters or budget to get something decent.

I would suggest to adjust your budget and or wait for the granny that sells her Clio 3 1.6 Dynamique managed under maintenance plan all these years.

Hi

Tata's, Picantos or a Atos which one are most reliable. Then running cost.

Remove #1 off the list, it doesn't matter, a Tazz is very reliable even though it is not a 2010 onward model. A good car is a good car, regardless of the year model.
Kilometres: At your price you are looking at below 150k kms, a cambelt, if a car has one is usually done between 75k kms to 150k kms, it differs between cars, so if you are buying a car at around the 100k km range you should make sure that the cambelt service is done, or make it the first thing after buying the car.

#5 Shocks are checked and replaced if needed at around 60k kms.
#6 Engine mounting s are replaced when they are worn.

The only e tolls you are responsible for are yours, the previous owner is responsible for his. Fines, make sure there are no outstanding fines otherwise you won't be able to register the car until they are settled. #10, no, no need for new number plates for #8 and #9.

#11, You will never know until you buy a car from them, it is best to stick to well known used car dealers, a dodgy dealer is not too hard to spot.

Tatas, Picantos and Atos are not real cars, take your money and spend it on a well looked after, robust older model, look for a Yaris, older Corollas, Sentra, Camry, Honda Jazz, Civic, Getz or any other older Hyundais, Opel Corsa, etc.

Atos and Picanto's are great cars. Light on fuel and cheap maintenance and they both Korean.:p

Dibs :p seriously though. GF looking for a fiesta. Mind putting up an ad so long so I can show her

I spent quite a few months looking for the same type of vehicle for the same price range and ended up with a 2009 Getz with under 90k km and in good condition.

Decent motor, easy to drive, EW, CL, PS, ABS, airbags, economical, cheap and easy to repair and more solid than the Atos and i10 that came after it.

Don’t think it will go for R60k though. Have a look at comparable cars and make an offer. Will only be available December though.
