Hi guys.

Ive been having some trouble with my PC, and I think it is my Asus p5n-D motherboard that is causing the problem. (check my Sig to see my PC spec)
I have been using this system for about 6months now (no hardware changes since then), but this moring my PC decided to go crazy.

For some strange reason the PC refuses to go past the Bios startup screen.
I have tried everyting I can think off, including: Swapping ram/removing modules. Swapping hdd's. swapping gfx card, swapping keabords, clearing CMOS. I even replaced the CMOS battery.

Weird thing is I can only get to the Bios starup screen if I unplug the pc from the wall for about 30sec, plug it back in, and startup. on the rare occasions that I could get into the bios by pressing DEL (only once every 20 startups) it freezes in the bios, and I get a long continious beep from the speaker. If I try to startup again after that I get a blank screen.
So basically I cant even get into the BIOS to fiddle around with settings, although I doubt that is the problem, coz I have been using the PC with default BIOS for 6 months.

One or twice during my hunderds of startup attepts I did get the following msgs: "CMOS Checksum error, defualt bios loaded" or "BIOS ROM checksum error"

I googled the problems, and I have tried everything that came up, but I cannot seem fix this.

The mobo is loaded with the lastest firmware that I have been using for at least 2months without a problem.

Suggestions to a fix???

EDIT: I forgot to add: I removed The RAM, and tried to startup, and the Beeping error codes seem to work just fine. Whenever I dont get a bank screen on startup, I get the normal beep it always makes.

Have you tried a different power supply?

Seems you've done a lot of testing. It's probably the motherboard. I recently had an Asus board that had a similar problem. I could get into BIOS menu, only if I left the board unplugged for a while. As soon as it was connected to power, it would turn itself on and refuse to turn off. I even managed to flash the latest BIOS update to the board, but that did nothing at all to help me.

I recall Esquire advising the following in a previous thread - can't do any harm to try ;)

1) Unplug your PC from the wall and remove the power cable from case.
2) Strip the motherboard from the case.
3) Remove CPU and memory from the motherboard.
4) Get some tin foil and place the motherboard on it for about 20-30 min.

(the reason for this is that your motherboard might have got a static shock and you need to discharge it, this is a very common problem especially in summer)

1) Switch off the PC and remove the plug from the wall and the case leave it for 10 minutes and try again.

2) If that does not work try removing the VGA card, get some tin foil and place the Vga card on it for about 20 minutes and then try it again

3) If you using a onboard VGA , remove the motherboard place it on tin foil for 20 minutes and try again

We do this almost every day with "Dead Motherboards or Graphics cards and they work"

I had a very very similiar (if not the same) issue... Turned out to be a power surge that screwed something on the South (or North, can't remember) Bridge of my mobo. So it was pretty much screwed and I had to replace it.

Good Luck!

What PSU are you using? Does the mobo have onboard graphics?
