Hi all,

Not sure if this will work or not but I've been having serious issues with my internet the last 2 weeks. No connection at all. Despite a thousand years worth of telephone calls backwards and forwards between telkom and Afrihost we can't seem to get it right.

I suspect that it's Afrihost (my ISP) because my router does tell me that it's connected to the DSL exchange and the line is in sync etc.

What I'd like to try is see if I can connect to another ISP (even just for a minute so I know that it's my ISP and not my line that's the issue). Is anyone willing to PM me their ISP details (or their phone number - I'd be happy to call you and I can try real time over the phone).

Try this:

Username: guest@telkomadsl
Password: guest

You can always get a R70 Axxess voucher at PicknPay, or perhaps someone with a few Mb left on his voucher will be prepared to give you the number and pin.

I've got a totally used Axxess voucher, but you'll still be able to access the ccp

Username: kft4bstr6ptt@adsl
Password: 706189187413
ccp: engen.adsl.co.za

I repeat, THERE IS NO CAP LEFT

Hope it helps

Thanks all for the prompt responses, I was gonna go to PnP and get a Axxess voucher but they were closed for good friday.

Crap, am still having the same problem! Here's a screenie, no matter what ISP I try and connect too I get the same thing "Authentication error". Yet when I go into my router diagnostics it says everything is 100% OK (incl. the DSL connection) albeit no internet access. I'm very confused! 2 weeks of this now!

What can I do? :confused:

I've attached a screenie FYI

Random question ... What line speed do you have and at what speed is it syncing at the moment?

Do you have another router that you could try, maybe borrow from a friend or family member?

I had a similar problem not so long ago where none of my ISP accounts could authenticate.
It just hung on "attempting to connect". It turned out to be a network outage at the exchange but only
for certain ports. I survived about a week of internetlessness. You might have different problem or Telkom is passing the buck.

So how can I fix this?

I'll try with another router (if I can get one from somewhere) and see what happens.

Have you tried a factory reset on your router?

If you have a friend with DSL take your router to his place - if it works then you know 100% its the line/exchange.

I tried the factory reset, no change. I'll take my router to a friends place and try there....

OK, I went into a telkom store in Tyger Valley and a lady helped me there by the name of Anneline. She was very helpful.

Basically she thinks that all I need is a port reset on the exchange. She logged a call for it (on Monday) as as of now still nothing has changed. How can I go about getting this done faster?

Vpi and Vci numbers correct? That can also cause authentication error.

VPI= 8
VCI= 35

Call 0800 375 375 or 10215 and ask them to reset your port on the dslam.

OK, a thousand phone calls later and I FINALLY have progress.....

Now I am able to connect to Telkom as an ISP (using their guest account and only browsing telkom.co.za), however, I get the same error (authentication failure) when trying to connect to Afrihost (from my or a friends account) or the Axxess account details stated in the start of this thread.

So where does the problem lie here? I spoke to Afrihost and they did a reset of my account but say the problem is most likely still with hellscum. What should I do?
