So there's lots of griping about noise - okay, it's *grinding* dammit ...and I get way more homicidal at the sound of a vacuum cleaner than this thing anyway. As to the static in the hopper - yea, okay, that's somewhat of a factor. But not enough to end up with your grind maniacally clinging to the side of the now charged hopper when you remove it from the machine; but that said I've yet to progress down to the espresso side of the grind as I only really do French press for myself. As to the hopper itself, unless these people have some weird deformations to what should be their hands I don't get what the problem is: I've yet to have a problem with it. Side note on said hopper: there's an interlock in the grinder that prevents some idiot getting it to grind and spew powder everywhere - take that puppy out and try to press play and nothing happens.
But for my money, odds are good that in the six or so months I've had it I'm getting to having spent more on beans than I did for the unit itself, and I've lost count of the number of bags I've put through it. So I'm good, YMMV.

You got me there, I got this one and promptly started using it; it's just worked the whole time; no fuss, no muss. But it's easy for me, I'm down the road from Rosebank, I could easily stalk in and demand service. And I see they're all over the Cape but you're kinda stranded over there in the Banana Republic...
A friend also had the meno grinder but experienced quite a few issues with the unit.
Ive been through a few cheapish grinders but finally ended up getting the severin grinder mentioned in the OP and am quite happy with it. Got it for R1100 from dion wired last year, so it's still on the cheaper side than all the higher end grinders.

I have a small Braun electric grinder that I bought in the UK. Looks like the Bosch in the link. Works perfectly. Don't you know anyone travelling to the UK that can just pop into the local ironmongery (any Robert Dyas) and bring one back for you? They are cheap in Europe. I certainly wouldn't pay almost R600 for such a simple implement. For that money, it should be able to make the coffee too.

Well in relation with those in the OP its either R500 more or cost less. You can import the base Baratza for +/- R2000 from Amazon...

The only reason I have not gone this route is you have to get a converter and what happens when it breaks or you need replacement parts.

Could have paid R650, but forgot to add one voucher and end up paying R750... still not bad looking at what Yuppy charges.

I used some of my Ebucks (what was left of it), but I should have linked it with the APP voucher.

What brew method are you using?
Also, coffee 101: always grind your beans just before brewing. Never grind and store them for later or to have tomorrow... You start to lose the freshness immediately after grinding.
