Hi all

Please can someone assist me with my DStv set up.

I have everything working, I am using a combination of a booster, a tap splitter, and a splitter which runs to all the bedrooms, however the picture quality can be horrendous in some bedrooms, I would like to redo everything in a manner which works.

1. I stay in a 5 bedroom house, each bedroom has a TV, as does the lounge.

2.One bedroom has a DStv decoder, (one of the older silver ones), as does the lounge, the lounge decoder is the primary, whereas the one in the bedroom is the secondary.

3.We also have an aerial on the roof, it is one of those hybid UHF/VHF antennas, this is pointed at the tower on the Constantiaberg mountain, as we have a direct line of light to this transmitter from our roof, if I had to realign to Tygerberg, I would need a higher pole, despite us having DStv, and a fast fiber internet connection, some of us still watch SABC on occasion, especially for the cricket which is currently being played, and if both decoders are being used for something else, people can still watch SABC, on any TV in the house, TV in the lounge has a digital tuner, so SABC is in HD in the lounge.

4.The issue is, is that in the bedrooms the picture is extremely grainy, whereas in the lounge everything, both digital, and analog is extremely clear. In my bedroom, the VHF channels, (SABC1/2) are clear, whereas SABC3, and E-TV are horrendous, and the two DStv decoders the quality varies, the one in the lounge is clear, with minor snow, and the other decoder in the bedroom, is more snowy, in the other bedroom, it's a similar situation, except the quality is even worse.

Our current set up is this, it is split between the extraview/antenna setup, and the actual signal distribution to the bedrooms

The Antenna/Extraview setup:
1. Antenna, and the extraview cable from the decoder in the bedroom, run into a T-Join in the roof
2.Extraview cable from the T-Join connects into the RF-output on the second decoder, there is nothing connected into the RF input on the second decoder.
3.The T-Join runs into an antenna booster behind the TV.
4.This runs into the RF input on the DStv decoder in the lounge (Main DStv decoder)

Distribution to the rooms:
1. RF Output from the decoder runs into a tap splitter, this is also behind the TV.
2.The "in" on the tap splitter is from the decoder.
3."Tap" runs to the RF input, for the TV in the lounge - Picture quality on this TV is 100% perfect, for both DStv decoders, Analogue TV, and Digital.
4. "Out" on the splitter runs to another T-Join in the roof
5.The T-Join in the roof, connects to two splitters in the roof
6. One of these splitters, is a 1 in, three out, this feeds the first three rooms in the house.
7.Second splitter is 1 in, two out, this feeds the last two rooms.

This has previously worked well, I have had minor interference on some of the channels, however given the number of TVs, and decoders I would consider that understandable, it's just fairly recently, that quality has degraded, and I finally am at the end of my tether, as I am forever having to go into the roof, to see what's gone wrong, and I am seeking the advice of someone who knows what they are doing here, to get this sorted once, and for all.

I would prefer not to have to go, and buy new parts, I do have spare splitters, and taps that I can work with if I am advised to put another one in.

Thanks

I am no expert but battled with my setup for a while.
First of all "T" pieces cause reflection problems so swap those out for splitters where possible, Secondly it just takes one bad joint or just a whisker of the outer of the coax touching somewhere to make everything go for a ball of chalk. I would perhaps dedicate a day to dismantle the system and rebuild it step by step whilst checking inbetween, but I do wish you good luck, it can be very frustrating.

i have the problem also, is this the way to connect exraview decoders or there is other way, please help.
