I'm happy with my WD - plays everything I've thrown at it so far. Are you looking at the WD TV or the WD TV Live (with ethernet) ?

The reviews of the Mede8er are very good, but have not tried one out. Esquire Express in Midrand had them for R1599 + VAT (R1823) without HDD, so seems a good deal if it plays everything.

Whoa that is a good price from Esquire! Yeah all the reviews point to Mede8er, I'm trying to justify the price tag though.
I want the WD Live with ethernet.

The WD TV Live (with ethernet) goes for R1234 + VAT (R1407) from Frontosa, so if you know a dealer, this is your best bet.

Alternatively, the standard WD TV is R969 + VAT (R1105)

With this dealer pricing in mind (comparing directly to Esquire), the Mede8er is not that bad a price. ;)

I sell the mede8er and the WD and the quality of the mede8er is outstanding have not had any issue with it yet. but the WD had a few customers with bring backs.

With my WD, I had no issues - just updated to the latest firmware and everything was fine.

I've only read excellent reviews on the Mede8er, and it would be my choice if I ever replaced!

I have had the mede8er for a while now and the big thing for me is support

Yes it plays everything I only play x264 1080p and 720p MKV files I have a few ISO's and some DIVX stuff and it all plays without issue

But when you have a problem or a question with the WD will you get support? If the answer to that question is I don't know don't get it.

The guys on the mede8er forum are great they reply to your queries very quickly and they really try to help they are also in SA which is a big bonus

Don't buy something you will regret trust me you won't be disappointed or feel bad you have spent extra money on the Mede8er

Trust me I know I made the mistake of buying a MVIX 780HD and that was the biggest load of rubbish I have ever seen

If you go to jump shopping's site a Friend of mine found a online store there that was selling the mede8er with a 1.5TB Seagate HDD for 3500.00

Cheers
