Need advice on a decent network splitter

i currently have a long ethernet cable running to lounge for xbone. I may be getting a ps4 soon and need to know what options i have to split the cable from router to provide cabled solution for both devices.

What's the main use of the speeds of gigabit ? Streaming ?

How come the switches don't appear to have separate INPUT port ? So I just hook router up to any of the ports and then all the other ports become OUT ?

Yes. Dumb switches transmit everything received to every port basically
