Hi

im planning to purchase a item in the usa online, its going to cost $549 (USD), and i will have it shipped to a relative in states who is coming through to SA next month. They offer the ability to pay with a visa, master card etc (i bank with absa and have a visa card) or to pay through paypal. I would like to know what would be the best and safest method, as well as what will the charges that will be involved. If I was to go the paypal route i would have to open a fnb bank account so that i can deposit money into the paypal account, which i am not so keen on since i already bank with absa? If i was to simply use my visa on the site, what type of costs will i be looking at and at what ex-rate will be used to calculate the cost (need to know so that i can transfer the correct amount into my visa credit card account)?:confused::

Open a PayPal account and link your existing Visa card to the account. No need to migrate to FNB. The seller pays the paypal transaction fee.

opehing a paypal account and getting money in it to pay takes almost a week. Paying by visa card takes about 30 seconds.

He never said you must put money into the paypal account. You simply use paypal as a "middleman" to pay the seller which is much safer than paying directly, since your credit card information sits with paypal. I've done it many times.

I also suggest you open a PayPal account and bind the Credit Card (do not use FNB stuff, use Credit Card)

Then pay with paypal
