Hi all. Sorry, too lazy to endure the forum search function.

What's the latest available dual view decoder and is it stable (firmware, etc). It's for a friend - she doesn't need to record, but if it only comes with pvr then so be it. Last I remember reading, DSTV were having lots of hardware problems. Is this still the case? Should my friend wait? Is there a new dualview coming soon? Her old thing still works, but doesn't do HD and requires regular rebooting and stoking with coal to stay up and running. Thanks in advance.

You need extraview, check it out on DSTV website. Basically you need two decoders. Almost any combination of standard, SDPVR (no longer available) and HDPVR decoders works. And you have to pay an additional fee if I remember correctly.

There is no dual view decoder anymore.

See - shows you how much I know... :) Haven't had a TV for some years now.

You'd have to pay the additional fee anyway for dual view.

She is paying that already.

So, even if she buys the HD PVR, she still needs a second decoder to watch the second TV in her bedroom while the grandchildren watch cartoon channel in the lounge?

Cool, thanks. Will relay the info to her. So if she gets two hd pvrs they should work? The firmware issues are (more or less) sorted now? Money isn't really the issue here BTW.

Yes - but you can get a cheap R399 decoder for the bedroom...and a HD decoder for the main room... although, either way, you're going to need an installer to upgrade the wiring. You need a cable from the LNB to the new decoder (2nd) and a heartbeat cable from the 1st decoder to the 2nd. (at least.)

My decoder still has minor issues, but I hardly notice them. (UEC HDPVR)

Thanks. I'll relay your advice. Meantime I'll send her shopping for a pair of decoders. She can organise the DSTV man to call and install. Thanks again.

Send her to get a Pace HDPVR 2P - R1899 (record 1, watch 1), and a 1131 small single view
She will thank you for suggesting a PVR rather then Xtraview with 2 normal decoders

:) Thanks. Main thing I learnt here is you can't get a dualview decoder any more. Maybe I'll go shopping with the old girl myself. Always like spending money - especially other peoples. :)

You can still pick them up second hand - I sold mine about a month to two ago for R500... although the HD upgrade was definitely worth it.

As I mentioned earlier, money isn't a problem. Keeping the grandchildren happy is the main priority. :) She'll definitely be getting a new one. Thanks for all your inputs.
