3 years ago I bought a computer(not a very good one) and now I feel it is time for an upgrade.

Instead of me buying a whole new computer I was wondering if the pc could work with me only changing the motherboard, ram, cpu and cpu cooler. I currently have windows vista installed on the hdd. I want to build a Sandybridge pc but I don't know it it will work with me only changing the cpu, ram, cpu cooler and mobo.

Thanks in advance

If you're going to change the motherboard, then you'll have to reinstall Windows, and I would strongly suggest that you upgrade to Windows 7 x64.

Could you perhaps tell us
1) what you currently have (please include brand and model numbers of "everything", including your PSU)
2) what you're using it for (gaming / CAD / software development)
3) what kind of budget you have for upgrading

Upgrading to a Sandy Bridge setup where you only change those components that you said (CPU, RAM, Motherboard) would be necessary, unless you want an aftermarket CPU cooler.

It would help to also know what case you have.
