Good day,

I'm in the market to get my old trustworthy HTC upgraded. The HTC is android based. The idea is to get a windows phone device of sorts. From my limeted reserarch, the best and only brand worth getting is Nokia/Microsoft. Here iz the issue though, I cannot decide on a device at all. I'm stuck on Android, and just need a bit of a holiday. What I need is a smart phone with a half decent camera. Aside from the camera, being able to use whatsapp will be great as well. Screen wise 4.5" and up will be aceptable.

What phone will be the best option? I've looked at the 830 and I'm quiet I pressed actually. Where can I buy this phone or any alternative for orange prices in south africa, without the hassles of using orange? I'm a little afraid of using orange due to all the negative reviews it is receiving on Hellopeter. Also, is the local warranty support for Nokia devices in south africa?

From your description I'd say the 830 meets your needs perfectly. You can get it at Vodacom I think but I'm not sure about pricing.

The vodacom price isn't that bad actually. They are a few hundred more expensive than orange, but they are local, so there is no customs issues.

So, after a bit more research, I came across a Lumia 920 as well. Will anyone suggest getting one, is is it getting too old now?

It is an old phone but hardware should be the only issue. So if the specialty your needs get it. You'll have the latest OS updates etc. available.

The only possible downside (nd this goes for anyone with a WP right now) is that the next OS (Windows 10) might not work on current handsets. But there is **** all you can do about it right now.

I own the 720 (for the epic battery life) and still feels and looks like new.

Well then any WP choice is purely hardware based.

I have a 920 for which the contract expires next month. Was looking at the 930, but may stay with the 920 as I still don't think the 930 is a big enough leap from the 920.

All indications are that all phones capable of running WP 8.1 will be able to run Windows 10.

Too old in the nail and crazy bulky. Don't do it.

I diagree. My 920 may be two years old, but definatelly not showing its age. Camera is still good and runs the latest WP 8.1 software (so should also run Windows 10).

Sure it cannot run the latest battery-saving health apps, but its still a very good phone. If you have the budget, go for the 930, but don't write the 920 off.

I was looking for a decent phone that was under R3000.
Bought the 920 from the MTN online shop for R2800.
Have had it for a couple of weeks now and pretty happy with it.
