I already have an xbox pro and I'm thinking of buying another xbox to be able to play over LAN.

Does anybody have any experience with this? Any disadvantages (besides having to buy 2 copies of the same game)?

And then there's the question of which version to buy; I'm considering getting the arcade version for R2499 which has a 256mg mem card (I dont have a mem. card as of yet) and then buy an additional hard drive and use the mem. card to transfer files between the two xbox's.

Or I can get the elite for R3689 but then I dont have a mem. card? (This comes with halo + halo ODST)

What do you guys think?

How much is a hdd seperately? And are these above prices the best?

Thanks

PS: No I don't wanna buy a PS3 :p

LOL

Those are the going rate for a Xbox 360 at the moment.

120GB HDD is around the R1500 mark at retail. Check www.zaps.co.za for prices on memory cards and HDDs. For your info I import 250GB HDD's and sell 'em for R2k (pre-empting their retail launch next year).

LAN is cool as long as the game you purchase has the system link option, this allows several Xbox's to play on a given network.

By transfer I assume you mean the game saves? Yes, that's an added benefit of a MU.

You might see some more specials in December as retailers cash in on Christmas sales, so you might want to have a look and see attitude at first.

Your call dude :D

Thanks

Do you have an idea of how many games have the system link option?

Cant one transfer demos and stuff as well with a mem. card for eg. Can I transfer castle crashers from one console to the other?

Do you only import the 250gb or other sizes as well?

Thanks for info

120GB and 250GB.

20GB and 60GB stocks are drying up but I can source it at a push.

Demos and other free stuff you can transfer that fits on a MU but DLC (paid for stuff like map packs and themes) are tied to a console -- You can only re-download that.

You'll have to go to xbox-360 forum and Google what titles have system link support. I don't do the LAN thing with my Xbox 360 so not clued up on that.

Plain Live for my multiplayer needs I'm afraid.

Cheers

Can you please give me a price on the 120gb?

Do you know if the arcade version also has an hdmi output?

Hi

All Xbox 360 versions available in store will have the HDMI output as its a standard feature.

In terms of my price for a 120GB HDD, it's R1400.

Thanks for all the info maestro!

One last question, does anybody know what it means if an xbox game uses peer-to-peer for online play?

If I connect both xboxes to the internet via the same router and start a multiplayer game, will the packets get sent back & forth between the two xboxes only or will they go all the way to microsoft and back? affecting both my lag as well as my bandwidth

pfft. stick with play station 3 and you won't have to ask anything...

lol much love for both consoles on my side this thread got me thinking what happens if i plug an ethernet cable in the PS3 with same game in to the xbox nw lol........n e way thats off topic i wud suggest go for the Arcade version and sign up for live...2 years ago when i bought the 360 got the arcade bundle for 2 grand with dead or alive and PG3 at Pick n Pay.

I recently (less thank 1 week ago), purchased an Xbox Elite from CNA. The price difference between the Arcade & Elite is +- R900. You get so much more for the Elite it is definitely worth your while to spend the extra $$$. Dont buy the OSD version, yes you get x2 Halo Games, but what they DONT give you are all the extra cables/ connectors you require, Elite all the way.

How much did you pay for yours? At this cna the elite's going for R3689 and includes halo + halo odst. I'd rather like to spend say +- R3000 for a version without the halo

BTW what cables/connectors were missing?
