I'm about 2km's from my local exchange and have the following line stats

SNR - 20
Line attenuation - 51

Does that sound right? I have a flappy 4mbps service.

Obviously Telkom are saying there is nothing wrong and that's just the way it is. I know they like to lie so I want a second opinion.

My mistake, according to Google Maps it's 2.93 km's from my house.

What exchange area do you live in? PM me your Land line number. I may be able to assist with a few tests and so on...

Call them and get you port speed set to 3meg. Should help a lot.

Bear in mind that an "as-the-crow-flies" measurement in Google Earth isn't an accurate way to measure the distance. In general, Telkom lines follow roads and streets. You are probable roughly 4.5km from the exchange.

Perhaps check the line attenuation on your neighbours' lines too. 51dB line attenuation is way too high for less than 3km to exchange.

That doesn't make sense, I'm not going to settle for a half assed attempt at a decent service. I will exhaust all avenues to get it sorted. I will even buy a new router as that sometimes helps when using better quality modems.

Ideally I want my attenuation to about 40 and SNR back up to 27 which is where it was a month ago.

Looks like you are now sorted again. If the same thing starts happening again let me know.
