Some feedback (almost forgot)
I got it working after installing the Sveasoft firmware, however, I'm using WDS to link the two WRT54G wireless routers.
From what I read in other forums, computers connected (wired) to the "client" WRT cannot access computers connected (wired) to the "AP" WRT in the normal Windows Networking sense. There are some commandline options to allow connecting using the computer's IP address, but I don't want such complications in a network - want it to work like in a normal wired network.
This is the reason for rather using WDS. If someone could explain how to get around the above the problem with a "client-AP" setup, I would like to try.
Apparently with every additional node in a WDS wireless network, the network speed is halved. Is this also the case if there is only two nodes - like my setup.
Also, how can I check the signal strength and connection speed between the two WRT54G's. The only thing I can see that seems to sound related is on the STATUS -> Wireless page under connectivity (or something). There it changes between 36 - 54 Mbits/s. But when doing a large file transfer between two computers via the wireless links, the download speed hits a max at about 1.5 Mbytes per second. According to my calc this is only about 12 MBits/s???? I tested this several times with no other activity on the network.
