I'm using a Telkom dongle with the D-Link connection manager. The little download arrow is reading a steady +1 100kps. Please suggest a free app that can tell me where this is coming from? TIA.

What was it? Out of interest?

BITS (Background Intelligent Transfer Service) was the culprit :)

Use Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) to transfer files asynchronously between a client and a server. There are three types of transfer jobs. A download job downloads files to the client, an upload job uploads a file to the server, and an upload-reply job uploads a file to the server and receives a reply file from the server application.

Edit: I have disabled the service and the machine is running just fine. Zero bandwidth being used now after I close FF.

If you disable BITS then say goodbye to Windows Update which uses that service to download updates.
