Need an automatic runaround for ~R1,500 pm

I'm already free - have a paid off 86 and don't need to sit with the headache of an old Audi possibly breaking. Just want something cheap and reliable for a daily commute of ~16 km return...

I was in a similar position except my daily chows 15L/100kms so started using the wifes i10 for a month, it was awful. I now shut my mouth and do the 20kms a day and love every minute I use my awesome guzzler. If you can afford and 86 and you can afford the petrol then enjoy it. Just my 2 bob.

Fuel is one aspect, but the transmission is another. An automatic just makes the daily commute more tolerable. I personally don't feel like I'm enjoying my car by using it everyday, so I'd rather save it for the weekends.

And I'm hesitant to go with an older German saloon cos I don't want the headache if something breaks. And they're higher maintenance.
Scooter .... :p

No really.
Scooter into the Jhb CBD with a laptop visible? I don't think so... :p

I've got an i10 1.2 auto and it has the same power than the 1.2 turbo Polos.

There are two derivatives of that VW engine. The one has a fare amount more power. Both have more torque, which will make them a lot nippier than the i10. The i10 is not bad though. Ex had the 1.2 auto...

I just traded my manual for an automatic as the commute was killing me. What was the worst part of my day is now my favourite. Since I commute 100km a day I went for a 2015 Ballade but my wife drives an automatic Atos.

Atos is a great car for short commutes. People often go on about lack of power but to be honest when you can only drive 40-50km/h in peak even an Atos is overkill.

But it is hard to find an automatic and when they are available you need to jump. Best part though is if you go for compact class automatic is they are easy to resell.

I was thinking about the 86 to drive to work everyday, I've been looking on autotrader and they all below 10000 km after 2 years. Why is that?
