Need assistance from Java Programers.. Student needing help...

If you can't use Google to figure whatever you need to understand out then you should give up programming right now.

Little harsh, but probably true... There's tons of resources on the net explaining the concepts

i think you chased him away. in becoming a good programmer, he will learn that good code is a stream, it always follows the simplest route, in which case, adapted to this situation, he would have posted some questions in the first post, but wouldn't have had to since he probably wouldn't have a question then in the first place...

which brings us back to where we started.

One of the most important skills that any programmer can have is the ability to think for oneself. If you cannot do this then you will never be a good programmer. The OP has clearly demonstrated that he cannot think for himself. Sorry to sound so harsh but that's the reality of the situation.

Actually I've met a few really good programmers in the past who totally suck at finding stuff on the net.

Lol, i figured out the answer by myself thanks.. :) Yay, i dont have to give up programming dewezeph... just needs alot of time sometimes..

seriously, in the development world, there is and will always be a problem with clever dicks, such as in this post
the guy didn't ask for a mentality review, he asked for help on some concepts, and YES, there are concepts that not even the most clever developers in and around cape town fully grasp.

i also battled with some stuff earlier in my career, and then when i asked this one idiot, Steven who worked for EOH in Port Elizabeth, he gave me similar answers to what was posted here.

well, lo and behold, im a successful programmer now, still not grasping every programming concept in history, whilst probably having more degrees and qualifications than most clever dicks, and i regularly help other students because concepts are not always explained well on the first 200 pages you see in google. there are however slides and one liner summaries that google will get (according to your search), but that doesn't explain the concept now, does it?

anyway, no hard feelings, just dont give the OP a hard time to make yourself feel better, seriously, if you have gotten all your answers from google right away, you're probably not delving deep enough into development in the first place, and you're not doing stuff as groundbreaking as you think you're doing. if one were to get all the answers from google, where would the self-worth be? then why were developers be highly paid, if google alone provided all the answers?
in fact, why would universities be offering computer science degrees, if you could just google it?

the bottom line is, are developers not allowed to ask questions?

First you call all of us dicks. Then you insult him for being able to find an answer to his question on Google.

Then insult some previous colleagues.

Sounds like your ego knows no bounds. Maybe you should take a look at yourself...

Programming means you have the ability to solve problems by yourself. If you cannot, then you cannot program. If he listed the concepts I'm sure people here are more than willing to point him to the resources that would explain it.
If you cannot learn programming from online resources then give up. If you have a specific problem, then by all means, post it, I'm sure it can be explained.

Think that is pretty much what the others have said also, but it is true for the chosen career path. You need the mindset (problem solving mindset), you need to be flexible. Blaming others or criticizing them isn't going to solve your problem or even make you smarter. Only makes you look like an ass and no-one wants to work with you.

+1.

Very true..finally figured out why I was asked @ my interview if I can Google efficiently.

there's a difference between the term "dicks", and "clever dicks". google it

previous colleagues, well the guy who wouldn't help didn't last a month there. the guys who did last were the guys who were able to help others. hell, how would you become a manager or team leader if no one could learn stuff from you.

if i had to take my development and career advice from clever "guys" like the ones in this post, i probably wouldn't be leading a team now, and would probably have had to fire a lot of developers because they asked me conceptual questions. (but wait, these guys are now top notch developers, how could they become successful if the guys on mybroadband said they're not natural developers because they couldnt find something on google?)

anyway, not planning to get into a pissing contest over this, its a problem that i feel exists in the development world, but not with all developers at least. the devdays at least have regular discussions explaining concepts, better than on google. i'll support them and try not too sulk too much because i've had to ask help on a concept

we're probably both right. some stuff you should find on google, but definitely not everything. hell, what did the google guys use? how did they become so successful? were they not allowed to ask conceptual questions?

They did the research themselves?

I don't mind asking questions. This is my point:
1) Search Google
2) No Google Answer? Ask someone
3) No answer, do the research yourself

Get it?

Some questions cannot be Googled because they require experience and knowledge of the system/problem space, etc. By all means.

However the OP asked about Java concepts (no specific question). Those are the basics. If he cannot learn those from the internet, then there is no point to continue (eg. no matter how many articles he reads he cannot move past the concept).

He overcame it, so he is fine now. Let's just move past it?

@JX. You type lots, thus, become inefficient in your argument. do you also use 50 lines of code to increment an integer? :D

Yeah dont google that....it wont end well...

Programmers get stuck and need help, the reason there is a brazilian amount of threads and resources on the web is because previous guys asked questions and got answers....
