I need some help from you guys… I need to upgrade my contract, and need a VOIP cell phone with 2.4Ghz wireless support. This is handy to communicate internal on the farm and via your ADSL.

My previous phone was an Imate JAM, but in the first year MTN had the phone more than 6 month for repair. Need something that is reliable without windows and will not crash more than my pc. I am on a procall 120 package, but my average bill is R900 p/m and due for an upgrade.

I also need good signal, cause we recently upgrade two contracts together for two Samsung D900i’s, but both are lying in there boxes cause they don’t have signal.

Hmmm, i am not sure if the 2.4Ghz wireless, but most of the Nokia E series and N series phones support wifi (wireless). If you want to use VOIP on these phone you can load software like Fring, and Gizmo for free on the phones.

If I recall with Vodacom, if you have an average spend of circa R1000 per month they will install a mini-repeater on site free of charge! Effectively you have your own mini-base station!

You can also buy such equipment but costs are around R7000 to R8000 for self installation!

Actually the newer Ns & Es have VoIP (SIP) built into the base OS/dialer, no additional sw required. My E61 works great with MWEB's BroadbandTalk over WiFi.
