Need GTi Advice Please

I did shop for insurance, and I agree, the cheapest quote I got was R1.7k for a 2011/12 GTi model and R2.8k for a more recent 2015/16 model. So a NP200 sounds more reasonable. But I honestly don't see myself driving a GTi in my 30s, it's something I wanted to do now while still young and excited about it. By 30 I'll probably have a much more mature interest. And just out of interest... When u sold off the DSG, did u report or make note on the bearing u suspected?
 
For that price look at a decent second hand Mazda MX5, more fun to drive then a GTi. Exceptional handling, yes it might not have the raw oomph of the GTi, but wow the grip that thing had. The GTi I took around Kyalami was fun but it just didn't stick as well. Also insurance might be cheaper as it's not quite as performancey as the GTi.
 
You seem to want a performance car, so where does the NP200 come in? If I were you I'd rather go for something sporty but with less reliability risks, like a Toyota 86 or Suzuki Swift Sport.

So wait, you went from a GTI to an NP200.
What about a Renault Clio GT-Line?
 
I'm roughly the same age and looking at a similar car with some differences...
I've had my license for 8 years and been insured claim free for most of them so my insurance premium is likely to be much lower.

The new Polo GTI has launched though and I'm hoping that will drop the price of the face lifted version (2015-2017) in the next couple of months.
You should be able to then get that 1.8TSI for around R250k.
I've already seen a few with one previous owner and under 90 000km on the clock for R270-280k.

There were quite a few issues with the older 1.4tsi motor (compression, coolant etc that I've heard of)
The ea888 found in the G5 GTI, polo 1.8tsi and new polo are much more reliable.
