So I use a work laptop to store all my personal stuff on like iTunes etc.
A new policy has come into place in which we are banned from storing personal items on our work laptops.

So I want to buy something portable like Zenbook type or Macbook Air equivalent that I can store my iTunes and photos on, movies are on external most of the time so size is not an issue.

I'm looking for long battery life
Quick start-up performance.

Will not be used for games.

Was looking at Samsung:

Why don't you buy a Usb 3.0 2.5" external and move all your iTunes stuff into it, that's what I did with my rMbp.

Company doesn't want iTunes or vlc or anything non-work related items on work laptop.
Including software.

Lenovo X230 is awesome has 10Hr battery 3g and is small.
However doesn't look as cool as some of the new macbook air type like ultrabooks out there now.

Looking at the prices of ultra books, they all in the same range as a macbook air.

It seems Samsung ativ series is only cheaper option.

The resale on the Mac should be better than the Samsung too I'm guessing.
