Hi

Looking to buy a new CPU for my computer have a budget of R1000, looking at prophecy website have found the following

http://www.prophecy.co.za/athlon-triplecore-33ghz-boxed-processor-p-87531.html

or

http://www.prophecy.co.za/intel-core-i3530-293ghz-lga1156-boxed-processor-p-66395.html

The AMD gets a slightly better score on passmark ranked 195 v the intel of 210, but that means very little to me main use of the PC is to run Basic dreamweaver cs3 and photoshop cs3 plus be able to handle 20 odd tabs at a time in FF.

Any suggestions welcome

Hold on...

What motherboard do you currently have? Almost sounds like you going to pop the new CPU in your current board. If not, then tell us what your total budget is for mobo+CPU+RAM.

Will choose the motherboard after i have decided on the cpu, will be spending about the same on the motherboard as the cpu.

I have the Athlon x3 445 in my HTPC, really nice chip (the 455 will be even better).

Can't comment on the Intel though.

AMD tri, no question.

But you can get a mobo for less than your CPU, and then rather put the saving towards a better CPU.

This.

As for the OP. Get the tri core. The more cores, the better.

Rebeltech has for R1315 but sold old Prophecy is R1600,

From a supplier's price list, with mark-up in line with Prophecy's usual pricing.

RebelTech's price is good, go with who ever's cheapest (although Prophecy might have better after-sales/warranty service, which is why I suggest them).
