need help choosing new 50+ inch TV

Hi.
I am looking to buy a new 50+ inch TV. My max budget is 11k. I am not keen on buying a smart tv as I already have android box. Main use will be watching movies, sports , , cartoons and playing xbox.
So out of Samsung, lg and hisense which ones do you recommend? Any particular model?

Probably the question that should be up there is LCD or plasma?

What do you have now?

EDIT : You do know about the 55" plasma on FNB at R599.00pm?
 
Plasma's are cheap as they are on their way out in my opinion. Plasma's cannot beat LCD's in terms of brightness and you also have issues like burn-in with plasma's.

How about talking about options and prices and not the merits of plasma versus LCD ?
I would find this useful as well.
The Plasma/LCD has been discussed ad nauseam.
 
Basically what OP needs to tell us is which he prefers, first.

As you say it has been discussed and everyone is in a camp already, so it is difficult to point him in the right direction without knowing what he has and what he wants.

Also that said - even though they have been discussed, you get plenty people getting it wrong so, so many times

Yeah, I see your point.
Personally I would like to see the a few options of each listed and people's experiences of them. It will make it easy to see if you are willing to spend extra to get a particular technology.

Then again - I am just being too lazy to research it myself :D

I search around the forum and had settled for LED. Simply because the room i am putting the TV in has two glass sliding doors and it bring in lots of sunlight. So is a very bright room and hence, I have ruled out Plasma. If this reason are incorrect for dismissing plasma than i am open to advise.

Good decision. As MKFrost mentioned, plasma brightness is not comparable to LCD / LED.

Only advice I would give, is to get a panel that has a native refresh rate of 60Hz. I hate CMR.

On a separate note- Makro has a special on one of LG's webOS TV's. I didn't know that they were available yet. Would love to own one...

Also if possible, I want to avoid SmartTV as i already have android TV box and i think i will be wasting money by buying SmartTV.

Oh dear. /open sarcasm/ i want t tv capable of such brightness, lost souls will think it is heaven' gate and fly towards the screen / close sarcasm/ seriously though, brightness is only 1 tenth of the whole picture. just my 2c.

Hi Mate,
Sarcasm is welcomed if it helps me make the right choice as i have never had a plasma before and choice of LED is based on room condition opinion on the forum.

So you think Plasma will still be a better option? If so, Can you recommend any model?

It could have a higher weighting because of where it is?

I don't know of anyone who dutifully turns off all the lights and closes the curtains every time they watch TV, and the Samsung is worse than any TV we've recently tested with the lights on

While it's better than the Panasonic S60 in some ways -- color especially -- it's also worse in others, such as black level, shadow detail, and bright room performance. A few years ago all plasmas performed poorly in bright rooms; that was to be expected. But while most got better, Samsung's F5500 performs worse in the light. Even though the F5500's black levels improved on last year's E550, you won't get to enjoy them in anything but a pitch-black room, with high reflectivity and poor contrast in most lighting conditions.

Like a gremlin, this TV hates bright lights

That's quite a feat since plasma has been around for a decade and at the end of it's lifecycle. By now you'd think things like this wouldn't be an issue
