Ok, so heres the situation.

I got my adsl line fitted on Wednesday last week. But my modem is only comming on Monday. SO i just stare at the fone line waiting.

Now, the problem is, is that whenever someone phones my house. For the first 15 seconds of the call, you can here a 'modem' dialing up, or well - That sound.

I dont know what the problem is, is it at thei exchange or what?

Anyone had the same problem? Im getting really annoyed... hehe

o ye, and can someone please explain what these telkom "filters" are and if we need them?

Thanks

ICE-VaPa, I'm not sure but I think you answered your own question. When Telkom install ADSL on your phone line it allows a greater spectrum of frequencies to be used for data transmission then the small band usually reserved for voice (thats why there's more speed coming out of your same ol' line) but in order for you to still be able to use voice at the same time you need to 'filter' out these frequencies which would otherwise sound like some sort of background noise- hence the telkom filters. I've never actually used the phone without the filters but I would imagine that the sounds you are hearing are exactly that. The general rule is you need one filter for every phone connected to the same line as your ADSL comes through (but obviously not one for the modem itself).

Hope this helps

Thanks again
