Just had a contractor at my place to install my telkom ADSL line. The house never had any phone so it was a matter of him pulling new line into the house. On trying to do this he opened the drain and tried to feed the line through a PVC pipe that is there for this purpose (im made to believe) but only a meter or so will feed through and then it hits some kind of block. the contractor tried but could do no more and said the call is going back into the Q until i can have this resolved. I dont have a clue of who to contact to assist with this? City of Cape town? Its in strand...

The guy was nice enough to leave his cell number so i can call him directly the moment the blockage is cleared...

anyone experienced anything like this? who do i contact?

Many Thanks

Why not try and clear it yourself. Get a piece of wire (bloudraad) and feed it through till you remove the blockage.

to be honest telkom is not going to clear the blockage. when i was in this situation, i was forced to dig up the ground and put a new pvc pipe in the ground with a draw wire. called the guy back and then the line was installed.

I was in the same boat. The feeder pipe went to a sort of box that was built into my house wall on the outside - and the builder had just filled the entire thing with cement. I had to chip it all out (yes the pipe went in the bottom of the box and out the top - with a gap in the middle - no clue why).

You may be able to unclog it with a bit of really strong wire - just keep mashing it in there - it might not be a serious block , or it might just be the feeder pipe was never installed properly :(

If you don't feel like doing it any electrician will do it for you for a cost.

Just make sure the Telkom guys is pretty relaxed about things or he may make you follow certain regulations before he will install the cable, which could make your life challenging.

Many Thanks for all the replys. My situation is not unique :) .I tried with "blou draad" but it feels like its hitting something solid...seems i'll have to call an electrician to feed new PVC pipe into the house. The Tech was a very cool guy and wants to complete the job...

thanks again for all the input
