Been thinking of setting up Google Play with Telkom Billing, but only got around to attempting to set it up today.

I figured it would be relatively straightforward, but honestly not really surprised to have hit a bump in the road, as this is almost always the case with most things.

So here's the issue. When I try to activate Telkom Billing in Google Play, I get a long verificiation text... something like DCB_ASSOCIATION:FW93487GF438RGIOSHF9

...followed by an error from Google Play saying "No Internet Connection" A network connection is required to complete this task. Please Connect to a Wi-Fi or data Network.

At first I thought this was because I needed to be using Mobile Data on my Telkom Sim instead of Wi-Fi, but that didn't seem to make a difference.

I've also tried clearing Google Play Data and cache, but the same issue occurs.

Is there perhaps something I'm missing? Do I need to do something on Telkom's side first? Only other thing I can think of trying right now is factory resetting my device and starting everything from scratch.

I should also mention, this is a prepaid sim, so from that standpoint there shouldn't be a problem.

I've also read through this article but nothing useful comes up.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

For me Telkom Carrier billing is straight forward. No setup required. Just make sure you have the Telkom simcard in the device then the option will appear and you select that as a payment option.

There sometimes is issues with Telkoms carrier grade nat so to rule out that issue go to your apn settings in settings network and create a new apn naming it "unrestricted" with the apn as unrestricted as well and save that. Now go back and make sure it's selected.

Try buying something on play store again and see if this works. Unrestricted APN bypasses the CGN but it sometimes causes issues with FreeMe data depletions so if you are using FreeMe you would ideally want to stay on the default internet apn.

Thanks for the advice. I think the issue was with my device. I put the sim in an old phone, added my google account and was able to activate it without any issues.

Put the sim back into the original device and the payment method is now active and works perfectly.
