Hi All

I need some help setting up my Vodacom 3G modem on Linux Mint12 as I've only ever set it up on a Windows pc. I have a K3565-z and a newer K3772-z modem. Any help appreciated.
Thanks

Never used Mint before, but its normally just plug and play on Fedora for me. You should just get a Mobile Broadband option appear in the network manager. Make sure you have the latest update installed also.

Saw that and added the Vodacom connection, typed in pin number but nothing happens. The LED flashes blue but does not connect and cannot find connect button.

It is better to just remove the pin from the sim card. Then, when you plug it in, you click on the little network icon, should have a mobile broadband option. Click on that, select South Africa as the country, then select Vodacom and then click finish. Should connect automatically after you click finish. The K3772 modem behaves a bit odd with Linux. It will prompt you to go through setting it up everytime you unplug and plug it back in. Not sure why it does this...but not a biggie...takes only seconds to complete the steps.

Yup that PIN was a bugger for me as well in the beginning. But just removed it and it worked. :)

How would I remove the pin? I have noticed that the broadband connection was unticked therefor I could not pick up any signal. Now with the connection ticked, I can see signal strength but still no connection. When I do plug in the modem it does ask for a pin number which it accepts but still no connection.
(PS. The only option I've seen was to change the pin number but haven't done so yet)

Pop the sim into a phone...then deactivate the pin in the phones security settings. When done, put it back into the modem.

Ok. I've got mine connected now.

Next problem...how do I check my data balance?

Open a browser and put 192.168.9.1 in the address line hit enter and with a little luck the Vodacom dash appears which will fulfill all your desires told and additionally lets you use the modem with another providers SIM so you wish to.
