Hi all, my 1st time on a forum.
I am from a small town, and we are busy to work out a plan to connect 4 towns together that is 70km, 80km, and 100km. stretches of mountains and plains.
Each town only has a maximum of 4 pc’s that will run on this backbone.
They will only use it for e-mail and a bit of internet, and then a telnet program will run live on the network from a server in the one town.

We did allot of research and gps measurements on all the points.
We made a hop of 40km at the most per tower,
We used 2 AP’s and 2 27dbi grids per tower. Each in a different direction.
I would just like to know if anyone thinks that we will have major problems with this type of long range, or if we set it up correctly that it will work.
I have all the specs of the equipment we will use.

Thank you

Hi LinkIT welcome to the forum.

The theory says that links of that distance are possible I have never done them so maybe you souldn't be listening to me.
I do know that you have to make sure that you Freznell zone is clear.

google for it to understand it.

good luck

Also make sure the of the following:
* Wireless security - use WPA between links
* Battery backup for remote sites using 190aH 12v battery with solar, wind charger if no mains
* Simulate traffic between the links, easy with MikroTik and test, test

Sounds like you are connecting the local municipality. Nice project

PS 40km is no problem at all,
Found this link on the Miro website to calculate your signal strength
http://www.zytrax.com/tech/wireless/calc.htm
More complex calculator
http://www.ecommwireless.com/cgi-local/wireless.main.cgi

Read article on Fresnel zones
http://www.zytrax.com/tech/wireless/fresnel.htm

Also look at offering VoIP between the towns later on,setting up a central Asterisk PBX and connecting IP phones, or analogue telephone adapters or voip gateways

Wireless Network

What are your bandwidth requirements? 1mb/512 ? Also, which 4 towns and what is your budget. We do networks, wires/wireless and also have a VANS license. So give me some more specs, and we can discuss it.
