Hi can someone please tell me where i can find a how-to on configuring asterisk use the asterisk-gui?

I have searched google but only find example on setting up asterisk without the gui.

What i want to do is setup voip on my wug, i only want to use voip internally and not outside my wan.

If someone maybe can show me in the correct direction.

Are you using Asterisk GUI or Freepbx? Did you install AsteriskNOW, Trixbox or plain ol' Asterisk?

re

Hi i have installed asterisk on ubuntu 9.04. I used the command apt-get install asterisk. Then i downloaded asterisk-gui and compiled it on ubuntu 9.04.

Also a free ebook on Asterisk - The Future of Telephony
http://cdn.oreilly.com/books/9780596510480.pdf

Easiest to take an extra box and install Asterisk Now or Trixbox - use the Web interface to start off with and read the pdf

Hopefully GRWUG in George will be up soon then then connect the two WUGS together & the 2 Asterisk Boxes via IAX or SIP Trunks

I have added two new highsites. One near Bokomo and another near the airport. My wug site is complete but stil need to work on the gallery becos the pictures dont fit. When i start the wug then i will test it for 3 months to see if there is people who wants to join.

Cant wait to connect to grwug. :-)

I will create a second VM on my server and install AsteriskNOW on that. Then i will be running windows xp 32bit, ubuntu 9.04 32bit and asterisknow 32bit from one computer. Then i will have 2 game servers, mail server, voip server, teamspeak server, web server, ftp server, file server, bacula server and irc server running from one box. It is a msi 7222 board with a 3.0ghz pentium cpu and 4 gig ram. 2 x 160gig hdd's that is in raid 1.

The reason why im using the msi board is becos when it breaks then i can use one of the other computer's msi boards to run the server.

Wow. Good luck getting Asterisk to work smoothly with all of that on such limited resources. If you're just doing signalling for VoIP phones, it should be fine, but once you start trying things like call recording, audio playback, etc, timing may become tricky and you may get audio issues. This will work better with a VoIP provider than with the PSTN as you need a fairly responsive system to ensure no timing slips on PSTN interfaces.

Ja maybe i should only test asterisk for now and get to know how is works. Then later i can maybe put it on a separate box.

@Kameelperdza: did you come right?

@gmza: I think he intends to use SIP/IAX across the WAN (namely internally) and not break out using PSTN (or VOIP, for that matter), so it will make little to no difference with regards to internal recordings, etc. However, should he wish to break out it must be remembered that VOIP providers can be expensive and running voice-over-ADSL/3G can only be done on a best effort basis.

Hi i created a new VM and installed asterisknow. I see that is uses centos and also freepbx. Maybe i shoud installed asterisk and asterisk-gui on a separate ubuntu server and then configure asterisk until im happy with the results. Then i can install asterisk on the main server.

timgaul yes i only want to run asterisk for internal wuggers. It would be nice if everyone on the wug has his own extension

Ah, now FreePBX is something I can help with. I use Trixbox (found it just a bit easier than AsteriskNOW - which gave me endless problems), my recommendation for an Asterisk PBX solution. Now your WUG will have some nice bandwidth I assume (109 Mb+?) so running SIP/IAX extensions will be a breeze. It's breaking out that it becomes tricky (either using Telkom's PSTN or limited ADSL/3G connections). So I see no problems. Internal extensions are easy easy to set up.

If you want a standalone soft phone I recommend X-Lite (a SIP phone).

Look at Zoiper as another softphone for IAX connections, been using Xlite for a while
kameelperdza - you have some nice high sites - Bokomo is on a nice hill not as great
as the Oudtshoorn Muni - reservoirs
Good luck with the Wug - how many users on ?
Webcam at the Airport will be nice for pilots

Yes the one HS is near bokomo and the other near the airport. This morning i went to lower the grid on the hs near bokomo. The signal was bad becos the hs is on a hill and the other one not.I got the signal from -86 to -74.

I only have 3 users on yet.

Should i use freepbx or asterisk-gui? Im strugling to get asteris-gui use another extemdion than 6000.

i want to use my own/
