Need Help with My car - its falling apart!!!

Hello,

Can someone give me some advice please - because I need my car fixed, and I dont want them to rip me off again. I at least want to know what is wrong, so they dont fix all other stuff that might cost money.

Now, my car engine is very loud when I drive, louder than normal, it actually makes this kinda grinding sound, as if its really driving hard, and its not running smoothly. Especially when I drive fast (120) the car shakes and the engine noise is very loud. When I then stop at a robot, my car like vibrates alot, but then i switch it off and on again, and it kinda runs smooth again. There is oil in, but can the engine be loose or something? Its as if its got trouble driving.

then, my brake discs needs to be replaced, cos it makes a sound when I break, like a "skaaf geluid". Can this be the problem why its driving so weird?

Then, where can i go thats reasonable to fix this breaks? They need to drill a fith hole in the disc break, cos I got other rims on my car. Is there a place in CPT thats not expensive?

Further more, my handbrake light is permanently on, it doesnt want to switch off.

can someone PLEASE give me some advice regarding the above?

Firstly, what kind of car is it?

Secondly, a good friend of mine used to have his old Ford Escort services by an old Italian guy who had a workshop up on Kloof - on the left going uphill, just before Yindees/across from Saigon. This mechanic was trustworthy and quite affordable. He specialized in Italian cars, but did good work on the Escort too. This was about 6-7 years ago though, so I'm not sure he's there any more. Just mailed my friend to try and get his name.

I reckon it's best to take the car in for a full check up - as it could be any number of problems based on your description.

Hey Bluecollar,

Thank you for the advice, I will google for details.

I drive a golf Gti, and im really scared, cos it makes a real loud noise - not grinding, but the engine sounds loud, and the car vibrates alot :( I dont want to have an accident if the engine breaks or something.
 
Luckely Golf parts are very cheap.
Unfortunatly i don't know any good reliable ppl in cpt. Used to work on my own car rather than take it in.
 
Yes, im going tomorrow to check it out. In the mornings when i start my car, its like a loud kla kla kla noise (like some metal parts are hitting against each other) for a few seconds, and then its fine. Then i drive and the engine noise is so loud, and when i break, its like this grinding sound :( What could the causes be? It cant be wheel bearings, cos why does it make that sound when i start up my car?

Tappets
Valves seals (If it has a little smoke when you start the car but nothing after)
Timing chain, if the GTi runs on a chain and not a Cam belt.

By the sound of it, one of those things. I'll go with tappets if it's an older model GTi
 
I can help you with a good Toyota mechanic, he might be able to assist.

If xrapidx says someone is good they must be 150% good. He always complain about bad service from all aspects of life. I would use that dealer in a heart beat ;)

Is it a MK3 GTI? I've got a MK3 Jetta that uses timing chains and I just had them replaced. It used to make noise sometimes, which would die down every now and then. Since replacing the timing chain its a bit better. Although she is near the 250k kms mark, so not doing too badly. Might it not be the engine mountings which's not fastened properly? :confused:

Or wheel studs not fastened properly as well?

Exactly - its why just about everything I have is in 150% working order.

LOL - I don't mind either way. I like my life to run like the military - if its meant to be a straight line, it will be a straight line, come hell or high, etc., etc, . :p
