Hi Guys,

I need some help please. Thanx to my burglar freinds I need to replace my PC compliments of my insurance.

Here is my initial thoughts:
- Core i7 2600K
- 12GB Corsair Dominator GT DDR3-2000+
- Gigabyte Odin 800W Modular PSU
- GIGABYTE nVidia GeForce GTX570 - 1280MB GDDR5
- Blu-Ray Drive
- Samsung 24" LED

I am set on the CPU, Power Supply and screen but I cant help but wonder if there is any better RAM in the same price range as the dominators. And also which graphics card will beat the Gigabyte GTX 570?

Please if anyone could advise. My budget is about R22k but bear in mind I buy directly from Rectron and the likes.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thank you in advance

Sorry to hear about the affirmative shopping! It sounds like a good build, but many here will tell you to get a better PSU as the Giga ODIN (non-GT) PSU's are cr@p.

What motherboard are you going to buy? That RAM would be overkill if you aren't going to overclock, and 12GB will definately last you a loong time.

Please just get rid of that horrid PSU and get yourself Corsair HX/AX 750 PSU.

Any thoughts on mobo you want to use?

Thanx for the replies guys...

That is one part I left out. So far i'm going with the Gigabyte P67A-UD5. But I really dont have a clue as to what would be better etc.

And the PSU is the Gigabyte Odin GT.

Thanx

regarding the graphics card, obviously any card with a higher spec will beat it, i.e GTX580, GTX590, ATi 6950/70 and 6990 but they carry a hefty price tag. IMHO, the GTX560Ti hits the right spot, aas it can be OC'ed to snap at the heels of the 570, without breaking the bank.

The MSI P67 boards are rated very good, as are the ASUS P8P67 series. Depending if you want to go SLI/Crossfire, you can get boards that cater for diferent tastes there too.

Got the mobo i want!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ASUS P8Z68 Deluxe. I have fallen in love......

You would also want to go for 8 or 16GB RAM, and not a tripple-channel configuration like the Socket 1366 motherboards used.
The Sandy Bridge chipsets can only run the RAM at 1333/1600/1866/2133MHz, so try to get DDR3 1866MHz with low latencies instead, and make 100% sure that the voltage is 1.5V of the RAM!

See if you can't rather get a Corsair AX750 or Seasonic one like it.

I would also suggest that you do get a massive case, bigger than the Coolermaster 690 II series, so that you can easily run a dual GPU configuration.

With your kind of budget, you should most definitely get an OCZ Vertex 3 120GB SSD.

Please just take note that the Z68 chipset motherboards will only benefit you if you're going to do lots of video transcoding, which will make use of the onboard GPU of the 2600k CPU.

What memory would you guys suggest? I am going to use this PC for heavy gaming, audio recording & mixing (Cubase) and Video Editing?

Thanx

OK, I decied to go with the Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600 16GB Internal Memory kit. Seems to be quite overclockable. Going to see if I can squeeze in the 120GB SSD drive. Would be cool....

OK, So this is what i've got so far. Please let me know what you guys think....

Corsair AX750 PSU
Intel Core i7 2600K
ASUS P8Z68 Deluxe Mobo
nVidia GTX570 Windforce OC
Corsair Vengeance 16GB DDR3 1600
Gigabyte Sumo 5115 Chasis
Seagate SATA3 1TB HDD
LiteOn Blu-Ray
Samsung 24" LED
CPU Fan Noctua NH-D14
OCZ Vertex 3 120GB SSD Drive

Total R 21 960 incl VAT

Cutting it flippin close on the budget. 40 bucks left for a Mc D's meal after the build! Whoohoo

Could you perhaps post the individual prices of those items?

Do you really need that much RAM? I'm not sure if you'll run into problems with that big cooler when you've installed RAM in all the slots.

Seeing that you have the SSD, you can go for a slowish/green HDD, like the 2TB Seagate which is going for under R800.
Video editing can quickly consume lots of GB's, so it would be worth while to have lots of HDD space.

Here's the individual prices:

Corsair AX750 PSU R 1 740 incl VAT
Intel Core i7 2600K R 2 680 incl VAT
ASUS P8Z68 D Mobo R 2 900 incl VAT
nVidia GTX570 Wind R 4 000 incl VAT
Corsair Vengeance 16GB R 2 000 incl VAT
Cooler Master HAF X R 1 700 incl VAT
1 TB HDD R 500 incl VAT
LiteOn Blu-Ray R 910 incl VAT
Samsung 24" LED R 2 160 incl VAT
CPU Fan Noctua NH-D14 R 800 incl VAT
120GB SSD Drive R 2 900 incl VAT

Total R 22 290 incl VAT

I've got another 2TB drive and 1TB lying around which i'll also put in as extra drives.
Regarding the space, thats why I opted to go with the Cooler Master HAF X chasis rather than the Gigabyte Sumo. I'm so excited. Getting this baby tommorow.
