Hi, so I have contacted Telkom a couple times about this issue, and they either just end up resetting my port -- which doesn't help, unfortunately -- or entirely ignoring me (I suppose I sound like a whiny little kid).
So here is the basic rundown of the issue: I have a phone line which splits into two. One goes to the office and the other to the house. The office gets better attainable rates than the house (about 2mbps faster and more stable), even though they are the same line, and about 15m apart. Office gets 11.5mbps, house gets 9.5mbps usually (currently at ~8.25).
I have tried replacing the pots filters and using a different router. No change.
Some things I think that may have caused this:
1. We had a lightning strike that killed our alarm system a few years back, but that surely would have damaged both the lines... Right? Or could it be the degradation of copper?
2. Our line number was accidentally swapped with some coffee shop or something about half a year ago, and we had to have it reconfigured. Since then our line seemed worse than ever.
3. There has been degradation in the line's attainable rate since a year ago from 17mbps to just over 11.5mbps. I think this might be because the exchange can't output that much because of more people getting higher speeds... or maybe the line to the house is degrading too. That doesn't explain the difference in the split line speeds though.
Has anyone had a similar experience and found a solution?
Thanks
I think this belongs here. If not, please move to appropriate forum. Sorry if it's in the wrong place.
