It cost R1000 for a 1TB USB powered hard drive at Makro or R1 per gig.

So let’s say it takes a day to go pick one up. Let’s say a day is 24 hours lol and it would take you another three days to ship it back and forth between two locations using the post offices speed services which cost about R50-R80.

So that would work out to a 24Mbps transfer.

Wait a second (no pun intended). It's cheaper to buy a hard drive, ship it to someone to copy series or movies or something legal for you, ship it back to you and throw the hard drive away then buy 'data' from any ISP unless you have uncapped or CellC.

Interesting. Oh yes I remember the Pigeon story

R1.07/GB, since that's the usable capacity :)

(953 674 MB transferred * 8 [for bits]) / ((24 h*60*60 [collection]) + (1.5 days*24 h*60*60 [one way transfer])) = 35.321 Mbps
35.32 Mbps (953 674 MB transferred * 8 [for bits]) / (1.5 days * 24 h * 60 * 60 [one way transfer]) = 58.869 Mbps

Doing what you are proposing gives you 35.321 Mbps upstream and 58.869 Mbps downstream in effect.

Lol even after applying a discount factor to compensate for shaping (road blocks and road works), loss of sync (post office tea breaks) and in extreme cases, missing packets (again...no pun was hurt), you would prob get around 10Mbps. That's still very reasonable for R1.07/GB

Yea, but the lag is really, really crap.

ROFLMAO! yes thats true, i can only imagine the online gaming.....we will have to go back to playing chess online. Counter Strike just will not work.

i forget what the term is called, but i think even in developed economies it is established as being fast and fairly cost effective.

the flying to hong kong example is more shocking.

and once you have the hard drive, costs will then be significantly less the second time round.

Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 345600000ms, Maximum = 345600000ms, Average = 345600000ms
