I recently moved house to Parkhurst and took out a Telkom 4 meg line.. When I do speed tests the results tell me that my connection is 1 megabit. When I download torrents, I get a maximum of 1 megabit at times, eventhough before I moved I had the same set up and used to get speeds in excess of the 1 up to 4 megabits.

The line just feels sluggish. Youtube videos take forever to load, sometimes websites timeout before they load. When I connect to Xbox live on a seperate unshaped account it takes longer that it used to before I moved. I have spoken with Telkom and they have remote tested the line. They say that the line is fine..

I havent changed any of the settings on my router since I have moved, so I am not sure that its a configuration problem. Could it be an ISP issue? I am also not sure about that.. I have two accounts.. an unshaped through Webafrica and shaped though Afrihost and I have these problems on both accounts.

You realise that account you got is "upto 4mbps",due to synching issues you could be synching between 1 and 4 ;) Exchange/line issues/distance are contributing factors

It is Telkom issue. They probably have old exchange in area.
In my area, I have 600kbit. :(

I agree.. Personally I think that its an old exchange in the area. The people who sold us the place mentioned that they were always having problems with their landline.

I would phone telkom and check that your line has not been set for 1meg instead of 4 megs, thats what happend to me, phoned in and they set it up tp 4megs
