would the following work well for him ?

http://easy-vpn.comodo.com/features.html

http://attheoffice.trispen.com/

http://www.openvpn.net

Or should i just use the telkom router 800VGT billion to set it up ?

cost is a big issue so trying to get away with close to nothing really

thanks again for you advises

You can use any of em, alternatively you can use the built in vpn server on windows and just port forward the necessary ports

whats the easiest way for me ? openvpn.net

Easiest/Simplest/Cheapest is Hamachi

No Hardware required and setup will be less than 2 minutes...

First Install on one of the PC's, Select "Create a New Network", choose a network name and password, on the second pc after installing, select, "Join a Network", enter the same network name and password that you created on the first PC...

Share the files on the Home PC and you done...

I have used openvpn alot, but for small setups, Hamachi can't be beat.

yeah but you cant share the servers drives ? looks like a peer to peer thing ? also what about the exchange on the server ? he dont use pop we go through the server to get the email (exchange)

Hamachi will give you a unique ip address per machine, so you would simply connect to that ip to see shared drives, pick up mail etc. I have done this before.

im kinda stuck in the same rut as foulmouth, dunno which one to go, what i wan do is create a vpn access for my family member who are scattered around the country since they're not that computer savvy...

foul..would you like to keep us updated on which vpn you went for and how the set up is? :D

sure think going to try openvpn tonight sounds like the better out of the bunch

then again all depending what you want out of it ? i need it so user can connect to his LAN from home he needs to see shared areas and get his echange email
