Hi guys,

Is it still possible to find the old 2011 Intel i5's ? Need a i5 system with 8Gb of ram minimum. Total is 7k without screen but including keyboard and mouse, case etc.

Thanks :)

Look at Carbonite.co.za for 2nd-hand PC's or otherwise go for the new Ivy Bridge i5 3540-3570k setup.

Could you perhaps tell us what you intend to do with the PC, because that determines whether you should get like a SSD instead of a high end graphics card & PSU...

I'm sure many of us on MYBB are willing to help you buddy, but you need to specify exactly what you gona be using this pc for ( gaming, workstation etc). If its for gaming you need to specify what resolution you play on and whether you looking at a gaming specific keyboard and mouse. Once we have this info I'm sure we can come up with something decent and btw, why are you looking specifically at the previous gen I5? thers not really much of a price difference between previous gen and current gen i5's.

Hold on a second buddy....the LGA 2011 Socket only supports Sandy Bridge-E type CPU which are Core i7-38xx/39xx
Xeon E5-16xx/24xx/26xx/46xx

I think he was referring to the year 2011 when Sandy Bridge was released as opposed to the 2012 Ivy Bridge chips ;)

I doubt it, he said "Is it still possible to find the old 2011 Intel i5's"

Since Ivy bridge is brand new, It's unlikely he meant Ivy bridge.

he means 1155

if u were in cape town u could of bought my pc

i5 2400
8gb ram
gtx460 1gb
msi h61
with aftermarket cpu cooler
and case with side window +fans
585w psu

but ya :P

well u can still fine the old i5's but they are closely priced to the new ones,so it worth spending R100-R300 more for about 5-10% faster (will help in a year or two)

if u want to oc get the 1155 S-B if u want just stock go with I-B

Intel Core i5 3470 @ R1916
GIGABYTE GA-B75M-D3H @ R837
TEAM Elite DDR3-1600 8GB @ R394
Sapphire HD7770 OC Edition 1GB DDR5 @ R1479
LG GH24NS90 @ R167
Western Digital Caviar Blue 320GB @ R546
Cooler Master GX 450W @ R598
Cooler Master Elite 311 @ R321
GIGABYTE M6980 @ R298
GIGABYTE K8100 @ R598
Total: R7153

That's the lowest I'd go if your main requirement is a Core i5 chip. If you'd like better gaming performance then you need to raise your budget by R1000 to accommodate a cheaper Core i3-2120 and a Radeon HD7850 1GB card. The older Sandy Bridge chips are still good performers but Ivy Bridge chips are more capable and efficient. Should you be interested in the goings-on at the AMD camp:

ASUS M5A78L-M LX @ R646
AMD FX-4100 @ R1305
Sapphire HD7850 1GB DDR5 @ R2515
Total: R7387

The upside is a stronger graphics core and the ability to overclock the processor. Sadly the FX-4100 is a capable processor but you need to clock it at least to 4.5Ghz to draw up with the Core i5.

Hello member I just bought an asus motherboard P7H55-M/USB3 and and i5 750 @ 2.67Gh and 2X Ram (2x2gb) but it doesn't wanna show the screen unless I put the graphic card. What could be the problem.

Please create your own thread.

Your issue is because your CPU doesn't have an integrated GPU, so there is no way that you can use the onboard graphics outputs without using a lower end i3 or dual core i5 CPU that has an integrated GPU.
