Get a trusted friend that actually knows what (s)he's doing on WIndows to have a look at what programs are actually running in the background. Many of of nifty nice little things you install quickly add up to hog your system. Each program owner wants to start his program when you system starts. The results are a disaster and it takes longer and longer to start.
A good rule of thumb: Did it run okay with Windows 10 when you got it? If yes, look at the above. If the above can't fix it, get help in re-installing.
If the above fails: Laptops normally have a VERYYYYY slow 5400 rpm disks. An SSD disk will probably give you the most bang for your buck.
Personal observation: I know a laptop sounds sexy, being mobile, but invariably it's expensive and frustrating for a home user trying to do real work. Consider a good 2nd PC with a monitor, keyboard and mouse. Yes, it takes up more space, but you get some good deals on small form factor (SFF) PCs that really don't take up more space than a PC. Just look for a well known brand that is upgradeable. My friends who made this change look back and laugh now about their previous choice and will never want to go back.
