Need network help

Mmmm yeah try different ports. I had a port on my mikrotik that would not negotiate 1000full with another switch.

Yip. Try changing to another port and see what happens.

Don't suppose it's a managed switch. If so check up if there are any errors on the ports.

To me is seems like that cable running between the 5 port switch and 8 port switch are only running at 100Mb. What colors are the link lights on those ports?
(easy way to see if link light colors differ between 100Mb and 1Gb is force the pc's network card to 100Mb full and check if link light changes color)

10-11MB/s is exactly the max on a 100Mb connection...

I don't see why not... if I take the cable between the two switches, and instead of plugging it into the 5 port switch, i plug it into htpc, i get the gigabit speed.

I'll do some more trails and tests this afternoon and see if I can narrow down the issue.

Maybe this goes without saying but can you just maybe confirm both switches says 10/100/1000

If you have access to laptop with gb ethernet (most new laptops should) - connect it to the 5 port and 8 port switches and test speed copying the machines connected to those switches.
If you get full speed on both it is the link cable - if one gives you lower speed it's the switch.

well, it seems the problem is the little 5 port switch.

Found two ports on which I can get a little green light. There is nothing in port 5, yet port number 5's light is on :wtf:

Getting around the 32MB/s transfer rate
