need serious help: C: drive lost on hardisk

I thought that what he wanted ? The Samsung Software, not the image... my brain is tired... need recharging.

I use Acronis and have had it bomb during an image restore a couple of times... what is left is a partition in an unusable and hidden state... once this has been corrected, the restore can continue.

I think the biggest hurdle for the OP at the moment is just getting Acronis to see a partition other than D: to which his .tib image can be restored to.

The scenario has now changed. I have tried all the options and are now screwed. I don't see the drive now at all. I have added it to a external housing connected to PC. Windows 7 picks up the USB device, I hear the drive spinning but explorer does not show the drive at all. Only the PC's C: D: and E drives appear in explorer.

If I put it back in the laptop it just says Boot from AGCI CD-Rom. Software for my laptop was on hidden partition s I do not have a bootable disk. I used the Acronis bootable disk that I made on a suggestion from someone here then is sees the disk. If I use the Add New Disk option it shows Disk1 232.9GB Serial ATA 232.9 Unallocated. it is a 250gig drive. I did not done anything further. Question now is can I recover my disk if the PC does not show it or is the data now unrecoverable and should I continue to use Acronis to add the disk and see what happens

Yikes!

If the data on the drive is important, perhaps take some professional advice, there is a member here on MyBB call SouthBit... he would probably be the best bet at the moment regarding what can be done at this point.

There seems to be a bit of corruption of that drives partitions... I think any further fiddling will do more harm than good.

If an image Acronis recovery bombs, it * should * be a simple task to fix the bombed partition and then redo the Acronis recovery... Windows disk manager is usually sufficient to delete and recreate the bombed partition... the others need nothing done to them. I have done this many times and it is all OK after that.

What is troubling is the D: drive now missing. Any further fiddling will probably exacerbate the problem if you do not know what you are doing. Acronis will not be able to restore the image if the image is not accessible... even if it sees an unallocated space into which to restore something.

Is the image.tib on the D: drive your only copy?

Thanks for the prompt reply. Luckily I have the image.tib on an external drive. If any file required, even if Acronis can't fix then at least I will be able to recover required files from the image.tib

I managed to reload windows and recovered my .tib file.Recovered the backup and laptop up and running. Once again thank you.

quick question how do I mark this as resolved?
 
That is great news !

I think you PM one of the mods like bwana or libs to change the thread title by adding [resolved] to it....
