I have a bit of a problem, being a gamer and having disconnection problems, now a few weeks ago my on-board network card was hit by lightning and being pc *stupid* went and bought a new one *Netgear 311* now when i installed the drivers everything looked ok but when i connect to the internet my system froze up, so i let windows do an auto install. But now my network card reflects as a Realtek rtl8139 family pci fast ethernet nic.... and i still have disconnection problems while gaming, so before i go buy another network card could anyone maybe point me in the right direction in what i should get as well as a stable modem that wont loose sync atm I have a Billion 800vgt that looses sync often while gaming.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated :o

Several times and they always tell me everything is fine

Might not be the case with your card but some do require that you install the drivers before physically installing the card.

I would be inclined to obtain the current drivers for the new NIC, disable the onboard NIC in the BIOS, use the Windows device manager to "remove" all NICs and then let Windows use plug and play to install the new drivers. As to the disconnection problems I have an old Billion 743GE(?) and in the past we had to reset two or three times per week. The firmware was upgraded recently and it seems more stable but we still have to reset it occasionally.

Thanks for the advice...I have disable the NIC in the bios and let windows use the plug and play and I have got the latest firmware for the Billion :(
Now I have heard that the netgear 311 network card has problems in win xp
Why OH why do Pc's have to be so confusing!!!(said the blonde)

Time for Windows 7. Its still free (the RC1 version) and works really well with the games I have tested (Activision, Crysis, Far Cry).

Check the forum for download links or ask around, a few guys (including me) are offering copies of the OS in ISO format, saves you downloading almost 4Gb. All you need to do is register with Microsoft and obtain a product key.

log into your router go to configuration > WAN > ADSL mode and change the ADSL mode to ADSL2+ withautofallback or ADSL.
If your ADSL is still losing sync connection, contact the ADSL helpdesk 0800 375 375 to test your line attenuation and Single noise ratio.
